Planting the future is constructed in a narrative manner that is empowered by symbolic imagery familiar in Mexican culture such as agriculture, working class, family generations, immigration, and patriotism. It is a visual representation of many first-generation Mexican Americans; whose parents made many sacrifices to offer a greater opportunity for their children while continuing to uphold and pass on their roots and culture.
The imagery throughout the center of the mural is a visual metaphor for outer part of the mural. At the bottom of the center of the mural depict two hands in a cuffed gesture holding a mound of earth where a small sprout of maize grows. The hands do not only represent the working class, but also provide nourishment and protection towards the sprouted maize. Above the hands are two mazorcas (corn ears), that are fully grown expressing potential, prosperity and diversity.
The Sun and the Moon are represented in a vase form to express the nourishment that they provide for all life on Earth. They are strategically placed above the river that divides Mexico and the United States of America to convey that these celestial elements have no concept of boundaries while providing for all.
Sembrando el futuro es una pintura descrita narrativamente, en ella se encuentran diversos símbolos de la cultura mexicana como lo son; la agricultura, gente trabajadora, la unión de familia por generaciones, la emigración y el patriotismo, la perspectiva de primeras generaciones mexicano americano es el reconocer los sacrificios que hicieron sus padres para que sus hijos pudieran tener mejores oportunidades, mejor calidad de vida, pero no olvidando su cultura y de dónde vienen sus raíces.
Los símbolos del centro del mural es una metáfora, es decir; en la parte baja del centro hay un par de manos con un puño de tierra donde hay un maíz que apenas fue sembrado, las manos no sólo representan la gente trabajadora, significa que cuidan y ayudan al maíz que apenas va creciendo, las mazorcas que se muestran ya maduras significan prosperidad, potencial y diversidad.
El sol y la luna son expresados en forma de jarro ya que los dos proveen a todo lo que vive en el mundo, estos dos, están ubicados sobre el río qué representa el Río Grande o También conocido Cómo el Río Bravo es el río que divide a México y Estados Unidos por el estado de Texas, esto quiere decir que estos dos elementos del universo no conocen de frontera y siguen proveyendo a todos.
